My crafting business, Positively Charming Things, went through a few different iterations of CMS. One of the first was ExpressionEngine 2 (after I had used WordPress and it got hacked at version 3.0).
On this one, I customized some vectors to make several different images for each of the sidebar background elements. They weren't browser resizable though, so the contents had to be "just right" or there would be overflow. The exception was the blog post area, those images were pieced together so they would expand if the content got longer.
